Charity of the Month
Lakeside is a “nonprofit organization that empowers youth and families to overcome difficulties and achieve success through quality educational and treatment services. Their programs and training reflect their consistent philosophy and trauma-responsive care for those impacted by various forms of trauma and adversity.
For struggling students, success is often an elusive dream and failure a painful reality.
Lakeside’s brain-based, trauma-informed approach to serving young people alters that reality. When students perceive themselves as failures, they can react by withdrawing or acting out.
Lakeside offers another option, one that leads to success today and in the future. Their therapeutic schools and services identify and address not only behaviors, but also the real reasons students struggle and fail. Lakeside students learn successfully to take on the challenges they face. Their students realize hope and the possibility of altering and redefining the rest of their lives.
Based on over 40 years of experience supporting thousands of students in their therapeutic schools and services, Lakeside also trains professionals across the country and around the world in the brain-based, trauma-informed approach they use. This unique training not only focuses on trauma’s impact on the brain but also provides practical interventions and strategies that can help bring growth and healing to impacted areas of the brain.
Lakeside offers many programs including; Lakeside School, Girls Academy, Souderton Vantage Academy, & Upper Merion Vantage Academy. They also provide customized individual counseling, tutoring, & essential mental health support in a student’s home, school, or community.
Lakeside offers In-School Counselors as well. They are equipped to work with all school-age children attending public school. Student eligibility criteria are established by the school districts in which In-School Counselors work. Students typically served include those with behavioral health and/or special education related needs such as, but not limited to:
- Anxiety and depression
- Crisis intervention
- Transition support
- Hospitalization and placement aftercare
- Emotional or behavioral support
- Substance abuse
- Social skill development
- Conflict and anger management
- Decision making
- Problem solving and self-advocacy
- Attendance and academic accountability
In-School Counselors are crucial to providing essential support to students with behavioral health or special education needs. The services they provide have proven to be an invaluable resource as both a prevention strategy for students at risk of being out-placed, intervention, or as a component of transition for students returning to public school from an alternative, mental health, or juvenile justice placement.”
In-School Counselors are available to school districts on a full-time or part-time basis.

Celebrating 45 years of Scarecrows in the Village
It’s that time of year again! Scarecrows in the village are back at Peddlers Village! For those of you who have never been to this awesome festival, you are definitely missing out.
“Peddler’s Village is a storybook village with charming colonial-style buildings, award- winning gardens, and distinctive shopping, dining, and lodging. For more than 60 years, visitors have followed the winding brick pathways to experience exceptional dining, explore the best of Bucks County shopping, enjoy family fun at Giggleberry Fair, escape from the everyday to a getaway at the Golden Plough Inn, and celebrate favorite traditions at annual festivals and seasonal events. Peddlers Village is truly a spectacular year-round destination.
This autumn tradition continues starting September 9! For six fun-filled weeks, over 100 scarecrows line the brick pathways of our autumn-tinted Village. Some are inspired by famous characters, some are humorous, some are scary – but all of them are carefully handmade by Philly-area residents and organizations. The display is free and on view every day through October 27. Guests are invited to vote on their favorite scarecrows through and the creators of the winning scarecrows receive prizes.”
This year, Good Stuff Thrift is thrilled to be participating in the Peddler’s village annual scarecrow festival. We are so grateful for all the time, talent, and creativity that our staff is currently putting into making these scarecrows come to life! You won’t want to miss seeing them when they are officially on display in Peddler’s Village in September! We will be posting pictures of our scarecrow entries on our social media, so go follow our Facebook and Instagram pages to stay in the loop!
Be sure to stop on by and get your picture taken with our Good Stuff entries in Peddler’s Village when the festival begins. Tag @goodstuffthrift on our social media pages for your chance to be featured and maybe even earn a coupon for your next in-store purchase! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite scarecrows as well!
