Charity of the Month

Our Charity of the Month is Hunting Park Christian Academy

“At Hunting Park Christian Academy (HPCA), their goal is to raise up Christian young people who excel in all areas of their lives. Their mission is to provide an affordable, quality, Christian education that celebrates a diverse community and leads children to know and serve the Lord.

HPCA hopes that all students RISE:

  • R – Respond to the Gospel. They want students to receive the good news of Jesus and interact with it.
  • I – Ignite your community for change. Everyone has been created by God, who has a plan for all. They want students to know that, because of God in them, they can have a big impact on their communities.
  • S – Serve God and others. They want their students to be humble and to find joy in service.
  • E – Excel in academics and life. Through hard work, all students can grow and succeed.”

HPCA provides equality, Christian education to at-risk children from low-income families. We maintain a very low tuition with a good scholarship program so that Christian education can be accessible to the poor in their community. We have tutoring for students who enter the school behind their grade level.

Their students have made great progress academically since implementing the Foundations & Frameworks material into their overall curriculum in 2006. And since most of their students are not raised in Christian homes, they do all they can to train them up in the ways of the Lord. Many of them have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the first time at HPCA and have come to know the Lord. Some students have been influential in bringing their parents to church.”

HPCA began with a vision to bring the saving hope of Jesus Christ to the Hunting Park community, and to equip our neighborhood children academically, socially, and spiritually to bring that hope to others.

Members of Spirit and Truth Fellowship met in May of 1999, under the leadership of Dr. Manuel Ortiz, regarding the need for quality education in their neighborhood. Out of that meeting, they organized a team of people that would form a board or the school and staff and teachers. In September 1999, the school began with 70 students. Since then, the school has more than doubled.

HPCA is an evangelistic outreach. All of their staff members are required to be Christian with a heart for their community. “Our students, however, are not required to be Christian. Approximately 70% of our families are low-income and more than half of their students are raised in single parent homes.” To learn more about Hunting Park Christian Academy and everything they offer, visit www.hpcaphilly.org.
